Melasma
Brown or greyish spots and patches in appearance, Melasma (or Chloasma) is a skin concern primarily found in adult women between the ages of 20 and 40. It can affect men as well, and is usually more pronounced in the summer months. It is not contagious or a disease, but it can be unpleasant and upsetting type of pigmentation for the sufferer.
What are the causes of Melasma?
Melasma can occur on various areas of the body, especially on visible areas like the cheeks, nose and forehead. It can also be triggered by hormonal imbalances, hence why those who are pregnant, on the contraceptive pill or who are diagnosed with polycystic ovaries (POCS) are more prone to this type of pigmentation.
HOW IS THIS TREATED?
At Beauvia Clinic, we see hundreds of patients with a wide range of indications. It is important to assess each patient individually to provide a skincare treatment plan that works for you. Whether the aim is to improve a symptom or problem, or to simply maintain and protect an even complexion, our doctors are passionate about providing a solution and an effective regime tailored to you.
Factors To Consider
It is important to note that melasma is an extremely difficult condition to treat, and there is no real ‘cure’ per se. However, there are many different treatments available which help to suppress the pigmentation and reduce its appearance. We would advise patients to start treatment as soon as possible to delay deeper pigmentation, which is harder to treat.
