Frown lines are vertical lines between and above your eyebrow that are the result of frowning and ageing skin. Similar to forehead lines, as we age these frown lines become more prominent. Treatment of frown lines can be beneficial to patients who are suffering the negative social effects of their frowning, or who would simply like to reverse the effects of ageing. Persistent or deep frown lines often may cause individuals to look angry, stressed, tired, intense or concerned. Elimination of frown lines leads to a more rested, approachable and fresh appearance.

What are the causes of Frown Lines?
Genetics
Your DNA determines whether you have the type of skin that is resilient and can delay lines or the type of skin that is more prone to lines and wrinkles.
Sunlight
The UV rays in sunlight break down the elastin and collagen in your skin, making you more susceptible to the formation of lines.
Repeated Expressions
If there is a facial expression that you make often (like frowning, smiling, squinting or furrowing your eyebrows), you may be more likely to get frown lines.
Stress
This can cause facial tension, which can lead to repeated facial expression, which can lead to frown lines.
Smoking
The repeated motion of smoking a cigarette or cigar can cause frown lines around the mouth. The tobacco smoke inhaled causes wrinkles and lines due to a narrowing of the blood vessels, which then deliver less oxygenated blood to those tissues.
HOW IS THIS TREATED?
Botulinum toxin (anti-wrinkle injections)
Can help reduce the movement of frown muscles hence the frown line that you see when you try to frown is removed or reduced. It can also prevent the lines from becoming deeper.
Dermal Filler
Dermal fillers can be injected to plump up or fill the static frown lines. If you can see the frown line when you are not frowning, Dermal filler might be the best solution.
