Jawline Slimming

A wide jaw in women can be seen as a masculine or unattractive trait, manifesting as a large, square lower jaw. This condition is caused by bone, muscle, or a mixture of the two. The most obvious cause is a large jaw bone, or mandible, which is usually congenital but can develop through conditions such as acromegaly.

How can it be treated?

Wide, or square, jaws can be caused by overactive masseter muscles in the sides of the face, used when chewing. Bruxism or grinding teeth (consciously or subconsciously during sleep) can cause your masseter muscle to grow in size, leading to a heavier-set jaw. Botox can be used to partially reduce the appearance, but other options may be required to reach the desired effect of a more rounded face.

Botulinum toxin selectively weakens this muscle over time leading to an overall reduction in the size of this muscle. Stress can lead to bruxism (grinding your teeth at night) which can enlarge your masseter as well.

As this is only a temporary treatment, we recommend that you have top up sessions regularly, every 3 to 4 months to ensure the continuity of the smooth appearance. This treatment can take as few as 20 minutes, and can last for up to 4 months.

BENEFITS OF THE TREATMENT

For a more visible V-line in the face, Botox can partially relax your masseter muscles. By reducing the size of these muscles, Botox slims the jawline. This in turn increases the visibility of the V-line in your face, making your face appear more youthful and slender, while emphasizing your cheekbones.

Slimming the jawline is a procedure most popular amongst people of Asian descent and those with wide mandibles. In addition, this procedure can relieve pain / teeth grinding (bruxism), which often results from an overload of pressure in highly developed masseters.

Factors To Consider

Once your masseters have undergone a Botox treatment, the end result will not be directly visible. This is because slimming the jawline with Botox is a gradual process.

Results usually only appear after 8 weeks on average.
